The project 'Tools' aimed to develop simple tools into new artefacts by applying methods of digital production as well as non-digital modelling. Can time-proven traditional tools like a sliding bevel still possibly be improved? While maintaining a simple interface the subsequently developed sliding bevel possesses additional functions such as an angle display or the combination of being adjustable in steps but also infinitely variable.

Which role could traditional tools play in our digitalized world? Should we replace traditional measuring tools with 3D-scanning and laser technology? The digital contour gauge tries to combine handcraft traditions with digital possibilities.
